Vitremela™ at 2012 Marmomacc Exhibition: Interview with Stuart Anderson

Marmomacc, the annual exhibit for operators in the stone industry, took place on Wednesday 26 to Saturday 29 September, 2012. Dry-Treat attended the event to showcase its latest, REVOLUTIONARY product, Vitremela™.

In an interview Dry-Treat's Director, Stuart Anderson, who was at the event, he had the following to say:

Why was Marmomacc your choice to debut Vitremela™?

Marmomacc is the world's biggest stone show. Being in Italy, it would feature a lot of popular types of marble, for e.g. Calcutta marble, which is in such high demand.

When showcasing Vitremela™ at the 2012 Marmomacc Exhibition, what were your expectations?

I wanted to get a feel of what people thought when they first heard such a product exists. Major stone companies have been approaching us for years to develop a solution to protecting marble surfaces against acid etching and staining, without changing its look.

How did people react to the look of the coating?

Overwhelmed! We had 10 or 12 people huddled around our small booth, watching our demo for most of the time. They loved watching us douse the treated marble with industrial hydrochloric acid and test it with a blow torch. We also used white marble, as it is most likely to show up any imperfections in the coating. Many patrons weren't aware that that our surfaces were sealed as we demonstrated the various tests. When I had told them about the application, they were amazed at how effective the product was without making any alterations to the look and feel of the surface.

Many visitors commented that Vitremela™ was the most remarkable development they'd seen in the stone industry.

What effect do you think Vitremela™ will have on the marble market?

It is a product that not only works as a standalone, but is also set to create a higher demand for marble from consumers, now that they know it can be protected from acid stains, etching and heat.

Consumers and designers often prefer the look and feel of marble, but have been weary of using it for countertops because it is so prone to acid etching. Vitremela™ allows people to have the marble surfaces they want with peace of mind.

Where do you see Vitremela™ in the next two years?

We believe it will be the world's standard for protecting marble, limestone and other acid sensitive surfaces. Actually, we believe this is going to massively increase the sale of marble for countertops. For now, we just want to tell the stone world that Vitremela™ exists!
