The newly-formed, independent company, Smeg Australia Pty Ltd, will be launching an array of new products; all benchmarks in technological innovation, but surely the most anticipated will be the Marc Newson range of appliances.

The Australian designer, much lauded for his groundbreaking, high profile work in aircraft, product and furniture design, jewellery and clothing, marks his first foray into domestic appliances via his collaboration with Smeg.

The Smeg oven and hob designed by Marc Newson are internationally recognised as the very best of international design, declared winners of the prestigious 'Good Design 2101' award by a jury of experts from the Chicago Athenaeum, the Architecture and Design Museum and the European centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban studies. It was also voted best domestic appliance winner of the Wallpaper Magazine Design Awards 2009.

The Marc Newson range is striking for its soft lines and elegant surfaces and is available in colours of hue and depth you cannot replicate in paint, including black, yellow, green and blue.

The design reflects Newson's philosophy that "the house is a place to live, not to pass through".

Smeg is the only appliance retailer to use world-leading architects and designers to develop beautiful appliances that combine technological innovation with style for the consumer who appreciates design and is interested in its evolution. Every new Smeg product is an original piece, born from a studio where form, ergonomics and function are rigorously applied.

Exhaustive life-cycle testing of materials and laboratories constantly engaged in research all testify to Smeg's commitment to offer aspirational products destined to endure over time.

The Newson 60cm oven uses 20 per cent less energy than the European 'A' Class standard and, like all Smeg ovens, it operates with a unique cooking system known as Thermoseal, utilising a perfectly controlled cooking cavity. The Newson models have extra energy-saving features including an ECO cooking function with power saving consumption, an ECO pyrolitic process and ECO logic limited power consumption mode.
