Pool Coping Protection Products from Dry-Treat

Lighthouse Point Residence

THE PROJECT:
Florida is a state blessed with natural beauty. The Peninsula is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Pristine beaches, wetlands and national parks are defining features of the sunshine state. This grand residence in lighthouse point compliments the surrounding Florida landscape. The Coral Classics pool coping by A&P Trading is reminiscent of the white sand of Miami's south beach. However, unlike the famous beach, the salt water pool that it encircles had the potential to cause serious damage. The area would also be used for entertaining, so regular outdoor dining would have led to oil stains. The client wanted long lasting protection against salt attack and oil that would not affect the coral stone's distinct color.

- Excellent water and oil repellency
- Long term protection against staining, efflorescence and salt spalling
- Sealer cannot alter natural look of surface
- Wet-slip resistance has to be retained

THE DRY-TREAT SOLUTION:
The crowning feature of this Lighthouse Point residence is the coral stone pool coping. It was therefore imperative that the surface was protected from the salt water pool. For soft, porous materials like coral stone, salt crystals that form below the surface can expand and break off or spall the stone. This creates unsightly holes, leaving the stone at risk to more damage. Due to coral stone's porosity, any food or liquid spills would have easily stained the immaculate surface.

For these reasons DRY-TREAT 40SK™ and STAIN-PROOF Original™ were chosen for the project.

DRY-TREAT 40SK™ penetrates deep into a material, chemically bonding to the pore structure. This creates the super, long lasting water-repellent barrier that significantly reduces water ingress. Preventing damaging minerals found in the pool's water from reaching the coral stone surface is the only way to protect against salt spalling and efflorescence. The UV-resistant sealer will not crack or peel and stands up to traffic. DRY-TREAT 40SK™ is also an excellent consolidator which will help strengthen the coral stone pavers over time.

STAIN-PROOF Original™ was applied two weeks after DRY-TREAT 40SK™ to provide superior water and oil protection. The sealer deeply penetrates and permanently bonds to a material, preventing a rapid deterioration from UV radiation and foot traffic. Due to the sealer's small molecule size the coral stone was still breathable after application. This meant harmful moisture could escape as water vapour, reducing the amount mold and mildew growth. STAIN-PROOF Original™ comes with a 15 year performance warranty when applied by a Dry-Treat™ Accredited Applicator.
