The Project

This house in Alberta, Canada has just had a feature wall installed with Black Rundle slate in Fall 2012. Canada's weather, known for its subzero temperature during winter, will certainly have an effect on the wall. The client wanted to have the wall protected from staining and weather damage.

They also want to enhance the look of the slate without having a glass-like effect or a fake look. Moreover, the wall had suffered through a winter and construction of the house covered the feature wall with dirt and grime.

Special Requirements

1. Sealer must protect the surface against freeze-thaw damage 2. Treated surface becomes easier to clean and stay looking good for longer 3. Sealer must retard the growth of molds and mildew 4. Sealer must enhance the color of the stone, giving it a 'wet' look 5. Sealer is permanent

The Dry-Treat Solution

Stacey Eklund from Unique Sealing Solutions showed the client a sample of Dry-Treat's ENHANCE-PLUS in action and the client was sold on it. She also recommended cleaning the wall with HANAFINN Oxy-Klenza™ prior to sealing.

HANAFINN Oxy-Klenza™, a powerful, environmentally friendly, alkaline cleaner was used to clean the surface to ensure that all stains and marks are removed prior sealing. It is important to make the surface look just how the client want it to be before it is sealed as it may be impossible to remove stains after the surface is sealed.

HANAFINN Oxy-Klenza™ removed all the dirt and grime that has built up from the construction of the house next door. The surface became clean and free of residue, ready to be sealed.

STAIN-PROOF Original™ was used to protect the wall. STAIN-PROOF Original™ will protect the wall from efllorescence, freeze-thaw damage, retards mold and mildew growth, as well as make the surface easier to clean and maintain.

STAIN-PROOF Original™ comes with a 15-YEAR PERFORMANCE WARRANTY when the product is applied by an Accredited Applicator.

To enhance the look of the surface, ENHANCE-PLUS™ was used. There was something interesting about the application of ENHANCE-PLUS™ on the Black Rundle slate. Normally, ENHANCE-PLUS would be applied prior to STAIN-PROOFing the surface.

However, in the case of this particular stone, ENHANCE-PLUS™ is applied after STAIN-PROOF™. This goes to show how important it is to test the product on a sample or a small incospicuous area before treating the whole area.
