Travertine Sealer from Dry-Treat

THE PROJECT:
A beautiful house in the Netherlands required some sealing. The rear travertine facade of the home overlooks a paved patio area and swimming pool. The outdoor area is an entertainer's dream.

The travertine pavers provide the outdoor garden with a modern, clean feel. However, the porous materials are vulnerable to staining and other damage caused by water. The owners required a sealer that would protect the pavers but not alter the stone's appearance.

Sealer could not alter the natural look of the material
Wet-slip resistance had to be retained
Treatment must make surfaces easier to clean

THE DRY-TREAT SOLUTION:
If left unsealed, the porous travertine would be stained quite easily. Travertine pavers are also more susceptible than other natural stones to a condition called efflorescence. Minerals that reach the surface of a material can react with the air, resulting in insoluble, white marks. This problem can be difficult to remove and can ruin the aesthetics of the outdoor garden area. It was important for the homeowners that the treatment applied would not change the natural color of the pavers. The wet-slip resistance had to be maintained, especially on the pool surrounds. For these reasons STAIN-PROOF Original™ and META CRÉME were chosen for the project.

STAIN-PROOF Original™ was to seal the facade of the house. STAIN-PROOF Original™ penetrates deep into a material. This creates the premium water-repellent barrier which has reduced the amount of staining on the travertine pavers. Superior protection against efflorescence has also been provided.

The permanent chemical bonding that occurs in the pore structure, combined with the deep penetration, prevents the sealer cracking or peeling away from the exposure to UV light. This bond also ensures the sealer stands up to ongoing cleaning processes. The permanency of STAIN-PROOF Original™ means regular re-application is not necessary so the cost and effort to maintain the large stone facade has been reduced.

META CRÉME™ was used to seal the pool surround. META CRÉME™ is an ultra-low VOC sealer. The innovative technology creates a deep water-repellent barrier, significantly reducing the formation of efflorescence. META CRÉME™ is invisible, so the travertine pavers will retain their natural color. The wet-slip resistance of the pool surround will also be unaffected.
