The Complete Guide to the Installation of Hydronic Underfloor Heating by Devex

Hydronic Underfloor Heating by Devex Systems is an energy efficient heating system that provides a comfortable heat source that is both safe and sustainable. This underfloor heating system is seeing an upsurge in the building and design industry for the numerous benefits it provides homeowners. Also called radiant heating, hydronic underfloor heating features an intricate design that must be installed by licensed professionals.

In essence, water circulates through a network of polyethylene oxygen-resistant heating pipe between 35 and 45°C. Sustainable energy sources like geothermal or electric heat pumps, solar collectors, or natural gas condensing boilers provide the energy to heat the water needed for the system. The benefit for the homeowner is that this water-based heating system, keeps costs low whilst providing a high performing heat source for the home.

Natural gas boilers are the most-recommended energy source for the hydronic underfloor heating as they are far more reliable than solar energies, yet costs are lower than electric heat pumps. Recently, Devex Systems launched its own condensing boiler. The X boiler, a condensing boiler with superior efficiency and low NOx emissions, is an environmentally friendly solution perfect for hydronic system integration.

Heating pipes can be installed in three possible ways: in-slab, in-screed, or in diffusion plates.

Hydronic Underfloor Heating In-Slab

This popular hydronic heating installation uses the thermal mass of the slab to store the heat energy. The heat moves from underfloor to the room, which brings a warm and relaxing interior without noise or dust. Albeit a slower heating process, builders and design specifiers employ the in-slab installation for its reasonable cost and outstanding insulation.

Hydronic Underfloor Heating In-Screed

In-screed installation provide a slightly quicker heating process that in-slab with the pipes installed on top of a completed slab with a layer of 30 mm of concrete to cover the pipes. Suitable floor surfaces include stone, slate and marble.

Hydronic Underfloor Heating in Diffusion Plates

Diffusion plates consist of aluminium and placed beneath a timber floor where the heat is then diffused away from the pipes. This enables efficient heat transfer on and beneath the timber floor. Floor and air sensing thermostats control the flow of warm water via pipe circuits. To avoid overheating the timber, the thermostat is set up to a maximum of 27°C.

When installed by a professional and properly maintained, a hydronic underfloor heating system may have a lifespan of over thirty years. For more information about the hydronic underfloor heating system, contact Devex Systems or visit www.devexsystems.com.au today.
