Optimising HVAC Systems Towards Greater Efficiency

The Danfoss AB-QM is a Pressure Independent Control Valve (PICV) that can be used as a stand-alone, automatic limiter valve or as a combined flow limiter and control valve when fitted with a wide range of Danfoss actuators, providing accurate and stable flow. Most recently, Devex Systems installed this valve in the Barangaroo project in Sydney as is indicated in the below case study.

Barangaroo Project - Basements and Infrastructure
Danfoss AB-QM Specification

Building name: Barangaroo
Use of building: Commercial/Residential
Place: Sydney, NSW
Application: Pressure Independant Control of Chilled Water & Heating Water Systems

  • Devex Systems supplied the PICVs for District Chilled Water Plant for Barangaroo.
  • The DCP provides all of the chilled water requirements to meet cooling needs for all of the commercial and residential buildings in Barangaroo.
  • The DCP has 16 central chillers and banks of plate heat exchangers to transfer the energy to each of the buildings and their chilled water systems.
  • The valves range in size from DN65 to DN250, with design flow rates ranging from 15,000 to 252,000 litres per hour.
  • Danfoss actuators were also supplied and are simultaneously controlled by the DCP control system.
  • The overall system comprises of 83 PICVs.
