Natural Light Control and Thermal Performance from Solatube

The priority for Browns IGA in Longford Tasmania was to make significant energy savings, as well as to improve the workplace environment for their valued employees; whilst at the same time creating a most pleasant environment in which their customers would enjoy shopping.

It is well known, that in retailing product presentation is critical to consumer appeal, and with Browns many years of experience in retail this was well known and respected.

This is a very large store covering over 1,400 square metres carrying over 12,500 products, with 110 bays of general merchandise and 356 bays of grocery items. In addition the store has it own delicatessen, butcher, fish department, bakery and a commercial kitchen.

Solatube Australia were engaged to provide the best solution for both natural light control and thermal performance. Certainly not an easy task, given the variables, but one upon which Solatube could draw upon experience.

A total of 60 x 330Ds Solatube commercial daylighting systems fitted with OptiView Diffusers were installed into the grocery aisles, with a result which exceeded the client's expectations. The Solatube natural daylighting performance was particularly evident during the Tasmanian winter, where the grocery aisles illumination, were much brighter than prior to the Solatube installation.
