The Project

Crown Casino opened in 1994, at the World Trade Centre, on the north bank of the Yarra River, before moving to the new complex at Southbank in 1997.

Located on the south bank of the Yarra River, Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex is one of the largest and most central features of the Melbourne CBD.

The entire complex has a space of 510,000 sq m / 5,100 000 sq ft, which is equivalent to 2 city blocks, making it the largest casino complex in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the largest in the world.

It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except on Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day, thus attracting a large amount of traffic for ongoing periods.

The first level consists of a sophisticated Resin Tile surface, containing quartz particles of 1,500m2 / 15,000 sq ft.

Special Requirements

There were a number of prerequisites for choosing the sealer for this project:

1. Super oil and water repellency for superior stain protection
2. Longevity - so regular costly and disruptive re-application is not required.
3. Retain look and finish on the surface for presentation to the public.
4. Ensure the slip resistance of the already smooth surfaces would not be further compromised.
5. Sealed surfaces should be easier to maintain and clean - withstanding commercial alkaline cleaning chemicals and machine scrubbers.
