Waterproofing your Swimming Pool from MDC Mosaics

Swimming pools need to be waterproofed as they are constantly subjected to water pressure as well as needing to cope with pool chemicals that can leach through into the concrete shell.

If your swimming pool is not properly waterproofed the effects of the constant pressure of the water can result in cracking and flaking and there can be damage from any pool chemicals that you use. Water can also be lost which is costly to constantly replace.

Mapelastic Smart waterproofer is a two component highly flexible cementitious mortar that is easy to apply by brush or roller to the concrete surface of the pool before laying tiles. According to Mapei, Mapelastic Smart waterproofer will remain constantly flexible under all environmental conditions and is completely waterproof up to a pressure of 1.5 bar and is resistant to the penetration of aggressive substances that are present in the atmosphere and in the ground.

Once you have applied Mapelastic Smart waterproofer to the swimming pool and waited the necessary curing time you can lay your mosaic tiles and using Kerabond and Isolastic or other suitable cementitious adhesives. The best grout to then use would be Keracolour FF, Ultracolour Plus or Kerapoxy.
