Critical Areas at Royal North Shore Hospital Waterproofed with Wolfin Membrane System

As part of the Redevelopment Community and Health Services Project, the critical areas of the Royal North Shore Hospital has been waterproofed with the Wolfin system, widely considered being the most reliable and effective waterproofing system for building structures.

In total, over 3,500 square metres of Wolfin GWSK were used in this project.

The Wolfin GWSK Waterproofing System has been installed over the electrical and plant areas on the Emergency and main Ambulance Driveway. The Wolfin GWSK self-adhesive membrane was installed prior to the application of 3 layers of asphalt. The garden beds were also waterproofed using the Wolfin Membrane System (FLL-System Test-Certified Root Proof).

The membrane was terminated within the walls of the hospital where it acts as a cavity flashing. The perimeter curbing was installed over the Wolfin membrane to ensure that the waterproofing of the deck area continued to its extremities to ensure the total area is waterproofed. The Wolfin membrane has also been welded directly to the PVC rainwater and wastewater service pipes and outlets, and terminated into the concrete columns to ensure the integrity of the waterproofing to all areas.

For areas where the Wolfin membrane has been covered with concrete, a 5mm thick layer of Projex Shockmat has been laid over the membrane to protect it from the rigors of steel mesh placement prior to the pouring of concrete. In total, over 3,500 square metres of Wolfin were used in this project.

At all completed stages of the works, and prior to the areas being handed over to the Builder's relevant trades, a Projex Group - Wolfin Membranes Australia inspector, has inspected each completed section and issued Quality Assurance sheets to the builder. GBA Waterproofing, a licensed and experienced Wolfin Applicator since 1994, has completed the waterproofing installation.

Through the years, Wolfin Membranes has been applied on many hospitals in Australia on such areas as Roofdecks, Plant Rooms, Podium Decks, Terraces, Tunnels, etc. In Sydney these installations include St-George Private Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Childrens Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women, Liverpool Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
