Waterproofing at The Rocks YHA

Overlooking beautiful Sydney Harbour, incorporating views over the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, the new Youth Hostels of Australia facility opened its doors recently.

Alexander Tzannes, architects, designed the new building, which is built over an existing archaeological dig. Because of this dig the building was raised to protect the artifacts.

The roof deck area, which overlooks the harbour, was designed to be used by the guests for relaxing and entertainment. Obviously the waterproofing of this area was critical as it is over the hostel's rooms.

Tzannes Architects specified the Wolfin Waterproofing System because of its proven track record in similar critical areas. The Wolfin GWSK membrane was terminated using Wolfin's Stainless Steel profile system rather than the normal Wolfin galvanised steel because of the building's proximity to the harbours salt water.

The Wolfin installation was carried out by experienced licensed Wolfin Applicators, GRG Waterproofing, so that Wolfin themselves were able to issue a combined single-point labour and materials warranty on the waterproofing.
