BASF Mastertop 1230 high performance flooring solution
The name Porsche has long been associated with some of the world's finest sports cars - prestige vehicles that
truly are 'in a league of the own'. For many, Porsche not only represents the pinnacle of high-performance engineering, it
also represents the ultimate driving experience and status symbol. As such, the majority of Porsche owners, dealers and/or
admirers, are also quick to point out that machines such as these should be 'treated with the respect that they deserve', and
as such, a regular 'run-of-the-mill' workshop is no place for such a high calibre vehicle. For Porsche lovers the only rule
that applies is 'only the best will do'.
With this in mind, two of Sydney's leading Porsche dealerships (City South Porsche in Alexandria and the Porsche Centre in
Willoughby), together with the highly regarded Exclusive Bodyworks panel shop in Granville, recently set about creating the
ultimate in vehicle maintenance and repair facilities - workshops and a panel shop that are truly 'fit for a Porsche'.
Needless to say, when it came to the design and construction of the new facilities, one of the most important considerations
was that of selecting an appropriate flooring material. Importantly, the designers have been able to meet the stringent demands
for quality performance and aesthetics, thanks to the use of a high-performance, seamless, self-smoothing industrial polymer
flooring system from MBT (Australia) Pty Ltd. Known as Mastertop 1230, this revolutionary flooring system is one of the products
from MBT's MASTERTOP 'POLYKIT' SYSTEM range, which incorporates a number of standardised elements to provide a wide range of
flooring systems and finishes in a selection of colours.
Available in a choice of either matt, satin or gloss finish, Mastertop 1230 is an advanced solvent-free epoxy resin system that
provides a smooth and impervious surface finish which is both attractive and durable, and provides excellent resistance to
both chemical and mechanical attack. Supplied in pre-packaged and proportioned 'kit' form, Mastertop 1230 is easy to clean and
decontaminate and is ideal for use in a wide variety of applications, ranging from laboratory areas, medical facilities, clean
rooms and sterile areas, through to automotive showrooms, workshops, warehouses, and television studios.
The three new Mastertop 1230 floors were laid by Sydney-based floor coating contractors Braemar Floor Protection Pty Ltd and
incorporate a custom-mixed 'Porsche Yellow' colour, which was colour-matched to a sample tile supplied by Porsche's head office
in Germany.
Speaking about the use of the Mastertop 1230 flooring system in the prestige vehicle workshops, Kim Backer from Braemar Floor
Protection Pty Ltd, commented:
"In facilities such as these, where performance is as important as appearance, the Mastertop 1230 flooring system provided us
with the ideal combination of toughness, durability and aesthetics. We had no problems during the installations, and the results
are excellent."
"The Mastertop 1230 floors are about much more than just appearance - they also deliver a range of practical safety benefits.
The floors' warm yellow colour and satin finish helps to reflect and boost light levels within the workshops and eliminate glare,
whilst their skid-resistant surface and easy-to-clean performance help to significantly reduce the risk of slips and falls," Kim
Backer added.
The Porsche Centre at Willoughby incorporates a total of some 1,200m² of Mastertop 1230 flooring, whilst the City South Porsche
facility and Exclusive Bodyworks panel shop incorporate a total of 680m² and 400m² of Mastertop 1230 flooring respectively. Not
surprisingly, the success of these floors has also generated a significant level of interest from other prestige dealerships and
panel shops around the country, with numerous new installations already scheduled for facilities in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
"Most importantly, the customers are also extremely pleased with the results. The Mastertop 1230 floors have resulted in clean
and attractive facilities that look more like vehicle showrooms, rather than the fully functional and extremely busy service
and maintenance facilities that they are, and thanks to their 'easy clean' performance, they'll continue to look good for many
years to come," he concluded.
