Clear UV Surface Protection Sun-Shield from Mirotone

MIROTHANE PU 5577 Sun-Shield has been specifically developed for application to reconstituted dyed and natural veneers to protect them from UV light and associated colour changes. This high performance, clear, two pack, non-yellowing, acrylic polyurethane is designed for interior wood and wood composites. It has outstanding durability, flexibility and colour stability.

MIROTHANE PU 5577 Sun-Shield contains a combination of UV absorbers, and light stabilisers which work together to reduce the harmful effects of UV rays from sunlight on the coated surface. The UV absorbers work as their name suggests by absorbing UV light and converting the UV energy into harmless heat energy which is then scattered through the coating. The UV stabilisers work by stopping the formation of radicals which would go on to degrade the coating. Together they neutralise the Sun's harmful effects to protect the coated substrate from colour and degradation changes.

MIROTHANE PU 5577 Sun-Shield is suitable for application to interior surfaces such as reconstituted, dyed and natural wood veneers, kitchen cupboards, wall paneling, table tops, bench tops, commercial furniture and fit outs, window furnishings and blinds and children's toys. It is also suitable for semi exterior surfaces such as covered entry doors and internal windows or even as a protective clear topcoat over an exterior grade pigmented base coat.

In 2007, Mirotone participated in a study with the CSIRO and the University of Melbourne which aimed to study the efficacy of different coating systems to help minimise the problems associated with post installation colour shift of reconstituted, dyed and natural veneers.
