Timber Floor Coating with Synteko Classic from Lagler Australia

The natural tones of Synteko Classic

There's been a bit of gossip around the traps recently, to the effect that Synteko Classic goes yellow. We thought we'd clear the air.

"Yellowing" describes the tendency for solvent based Polyurethanes and Oil Modified coatings to turn a yellowy-orange after being subjected to UV light. Polyurethanes, even those which come out of the container quite clear, will yellow over a period of time.

The curing process of polyurethane is reversible. At any time during its life, if you put enough solvent on the floor, you can partially or fully convert it back to a liquid state. Synteko Classic is not a conventional polyurethane, it is a conversion varnish which, unlike polyurethane, cures irreversibly.

This is one of the reasons why its appearance will darken slightly over time, but not yellow. It's also why Synteko Classic is the perfect coating to overcome conventional coating issues where oily timbers or other contaminants are concerned.

Some have confused Synteko Classic as a yellowing product as it has an amber colour in the container, but a yellowing product is one which changes detrimentally over a period of time. Synteko's natural shelf colour enhances the tone of the timber, adding a warmth and lustre. The timber itself may also change its tone over a period of time through exposure to UV light, and this is natural.

It's one of the many reasons why contractors are switching to Synteko Classic in droves. And their customers couldn't be happier.
