Mascot Engineering Supplying Sydney's New Fish Market Development
Mascot Engineering played a pivotal role in the redevelopment of the New Sydney Fish Market by designing, engineering, manufacturing, and supplying custom precast concrete products tailored for a challenging marine environment. The project, located on the edge of Blackwattle Bay, required innovative precast solutions due to limited site access, tidal conditions, and stringent engineering requirements. Working under a design and construct delivery model, Mascot Engineering collaborated closely with all project stakeholders from the early stages. This teamwork ensured that every product- from 11kV cable vaults to custom precast concrete culverts (C2 classification) with 70mm steel covers met the highest design, safety, and durability standards required by local authorities and Sydney Water. Given the location of the project, all precast elements were required to be marine-grade as they would be partially submerged.
A notable logistical solution involved transporting the precast elements from a holding yard in Rozelle by barge across Blackwattle Bay, addressing site accessibility challenges while maintaining high-quality off-site manufacturing practices. This approach improved site safety, reduced construction time, and provided better quality control.
Overall, Mascot Engineering's contribution highlights its expertise in delivering robust, long-lasting, and innovative precast solutions for major infrastructure projects in Australia, ensuring that the New Sydney Fish Market will continue to serve as a vibrant, world-class facility into the future.
