Victor Harbour High School Disability Unit Upgrade: Victor Harbor High School strives for a culture that truly values individual differences. In the case of the students in the Special Education Sub School (SESS), that means understanding that they learn differently from others and that the teaching and support staff need to try another way to engage students to the best of their abilities.

The SESS is working closely with visiting professionals to provide students with services such as Speech pathology, Occupational therapy, Orientation and Mobility, Social emotional support, Psychology and Workplace providers. The SESS required a solution where a flexible learning space could be created where children can learn in a quiet yet robust physical learning environment.

Builder McMahon Services selected Bildspec Operable Walls to supply and install a Series 100 Rw49 centre-stacking operable wall with retractable bottom seals to enable the SESS to divide a large space into two separate, acoustically-controlled rooms within their disability units. The operable wall offers flexibility and adaptability where specialists can provide opportunities for student engagement.

Operable walls may be supplied with various face finishes used on the surface of each, which can improve the acoustic quality of the space through sound absorption. Careful consideration should be given to choosing face finishes that assist in absorbing the frequencies of speech. The wall at Victor Harbour High is clad in 12mm Echo Panel Grey with vitreous enamel whiteboards inset within the operable wall panels.
