The number of homes affected by termites in Australia each year is alarming. Minimising termite attacks can be done in different ways, but if you really want to combat this problem, you have to start at the source. NASH, or the National Association of Steel-Framed Housing Inc., encourages builders to use steel frames instead of the traditional wood.

Termites can't eat steel, and the Building Code of Australia (BCA), allows steel-framed houses to be built even without extra defence against termites. Properties with non-structural components that are made of termite-resistant materials can do without a barrier.

Steel-framed house owners may also opt to use a termite management system that conforms to the Australian Standards minimum requirements AS 3660 series.

Termite attacks may occur in one way or another, which is why it's important to get the best defence, which is having materials that termites can't eat. Learn more about minimising termite attacks by NASH at www.nash.asn.au.
