Timber Flooring Adhesives from Ezi Floor![]() Bona R850 Timber flooring adhesives used in Australia are usually based upon moisture cured polyurethane systems. These products contain isocyanates, have a distinct solvent like odour and can be extremely difficult to remove from any substrate, including prefinished flooring and the skin of the contractor. In Europe waterbased 1 and 2 component adhesives have been a major part of the market for many years. Whilst the residual moisture from these adhesives quickly disperses it has meant that a longer period needed to be allowed before the floors could be sanded. Bona has now developed new adhesive systems based upon silane materials which contain no solvent and no water. This means that the contractors, and others on site, are not exposed to solvents and floors installed using these materials can be sanded quickly after installation. Bona R850 is a one component moisture cured silane-based adhesive for solid timber floors, including overlay, parquet, blocks and engineered floors. It is also available as Bona R850T, which in addition to being able to be trowel applied has a slightly higher viscosity to optimise its use in gun application. Bona R850T is also designed to be used with the Bona OptiSpread 2.0 application system. R850 withstands the thrust created during expansion of a timber floor, like conventional adhesives, whilst having a low resistance against shrinkage. This means that tension between the timber and the substrate, to which the timber floor is fixed, is reduced giving a more stable floor.
