Florence Broadhurst Screening in Parkroyal Revamp

Chiaro Screens has adapted legendary Australian designer Florence Broadhurst's 'Cockatoos' for ABODE at the Parkroyal Darling Harbour. ABODE, the final stage in the hotel's multimillion-dollar refurbishment, combines café, fine dining and bar experiences in one essential space. The cockatoo screens cleverly delineate the space and add a touch of whimsical Australiana.

The screens of white-silhouetted birds and foliage throw playful shadows in the dining area, provide a backdrop to the bar seating, and decorate the ceilings in the informal café space. Black silhouette screens carry on the theme on ABODE's exterior.

Forward Thinking Design's Vanessa Cullen designed the refit and brought on Chiaro Screens to provide this major design element.

"The challenge was maintaining the integrity of the Florence Broadhurst design while accommodating the parameters of the space," said Vashti Gonda of Chiaro Screens.

"The ceiling screens had to make provisions for existing lighting, fire sprinklers and audio visual equipment," said Vashti. "We had to strategically position holes without disrupting the pattern."

Chiaro Screens offer a range of screen designs as well as customised products. The screens have wide decorative and functional applications including as privacy screens, room dividers, awnings and wall art.
