Glass Reinforced Concrete Cable Pits from Mascot Engineering
Mascot's GRC cable pits are strong enough for all load ratings, and can be used wherever traditional concrete is required. GRC pits are lightweight in nature, up to 1/10th the weight of steel reinforced concrete; however, are tested to be of equal strength. Precast, lightweight pits such as Mascot's engineered GRC pits are easy to install, and there's no need to concrete encase, saving you time and money.
Pipe Entries
Due to the nature of the material, pipe entries can be made on site in any number of locations and sizes - no need to core-drill and certainly no shattering or patching. Simply mark out where the entry is to be made, and starting in the centre, softly tap the pit with a ball pein hammer.

Glass Reinforced Concrete v Traditional Concrete
Mascot GRC products are manufactured with glass fibre reinforcement throughout, allowing us to produce products that are thinner, and more importantly, lighter than those made with traditional steel reinforcement. Even though GRC products are lighter and thinner, strength is maintained due to the even distribution of the glass fibre. The absence of steel ensures there is no chance of corrosion or conductivity, and they are also resistant to acid attack.
In most cases Mascot's GRC products are designed for ease of handling on site, and do not require large and expensive lifting equipment and operators, saving you time and money. Take our 450sq pit, it only weighs 34kg, whilst the equivalent steel reinforced concrete product weighs close to 300kg.
How to Choose a Cable Pit
Mascot's GRC cable pits are available in a range of sizes. Points to consider when deciding on an appropriate GRC pit are:
Purpose of the pit - direction change, drawing or jointing?
Cable depth.
Will the pit be used for storage (now or in the future)?
Will cables need to be segregated?
Any site limitations or other criteria?
Load ratings.
Environment;
What will the finished surface look like and should the cover match? Is aesthetics important?
Transportation of the product to site.
Installation requirements.
Access considerations;
Do the contents need to be protected from water and foreign objects?
Do the contents need to be protected from unauthorised entry?
Does access pose a security risk?
