Solid timber flooring from Lagler Australia

Recycled fence pailings never looked so good.

In a recent editorial on Lagler Australia's new range of solid overlay and engineered flooring, the flooring commonly known as floating floors were described among comments such as "flimsy veneers" and "not real timber" (with the qualifying statement of "barely a few millimetres of real timber").

In hindsight we recognise that these comments were uncharacteristically counter to Lagler Australia's belief in offering quality products on merit without disparaging the market alternatives. We apologise for any offence or misunderstanding this may have caused within the timber flooring industry.

The intention was to highlight important distinctions between different flooring options. For example, floating floor boards are affixed together but "float" on the sub-floor with no other affixing. Solid timber flooring is adhered to the sub floor with a combination of adhesive and fixings. This distinction is still unknown to many home owners. We were overly creative in explaining that distinction.

Indeed, part of Lagler's range is the 18mm engineered flooring. Like a good quality floating floor, it is a veneer of genuine timber (a very generous 6mm of sand-able, recycled solid timber) atop the most stable hardwood ply base available. Unlike floating floors however, the tongue and groove system is engineered for the specific purpose of secret-nailing (illustrated), so they are affixed firmly to the sub floor.

We also potentially implied that "floating floors" are of questionable quality when there is a wide spectrum of quality within the available range, as with any flooring option. Just as there are many floating floor options which are of good quality, some solid overlay flooring can be hindered by poor machining, or excessive oils or saps. It's an unfortunate fact testified by a growing number of affected contractors.

This is why Lagler Australia only stock overlay with the highest quality machining, and in the case of Darwin Stringybark and the engineered flooring, recycled or reclaimed timbers all sufficiently aged for minimal installation issues.
