Glass Curtain Walls for Airport Terminals from Ronstan

The successful revamp of the New Orleans International Airport in 2019 would not have been as successful without Ronstan's high-performance glass curtain walls. Considered the largest construction project in New Orleans in over 40 years, the project comprised the building of a new terminal with thirty-five gates and almost 1 million sq. ft. (92,900m²) of space under a huge domed roof.

Ronstan, a world-renowned specialty contractor in tensile architecture, supplied expansive 50ft (15m) high glass facades, now an iconic feature of the design and that flank the terminal on all sides. To give both vertical and horizontal support to the primary steel, the facades utilised a tension rod system developed by Walter P. Moore. In action, this design gives it a lightweight, elegant appearance with unobstructed views and natural light ingress, yet is strong plus durable enough to withstand hurricanes.

Ronstan also worked with steel supplier, Daver Steels, to deliver more than 2,000 high strength tension bar assemblies in 12mm and 16mm diameter. These effectively provide support and bracing to the primary steel component of the airport's structure. Ronstan rendered all carbon steel components in a high gloss, powder-coat finish to match existing steelwork. Stainless-steel sections were electropolished for a sleek, clean, and long-lasting finish.
