Balcony construction requires accurate falls to move water away from finished surfaces and protect the structure below. In a recent Victorian project, Marmox Sloping Boards provided a lightweight, pre-formed solution for creating consistent drainage without relying on traditional screeding.

A pre-formed approach

Designed for balconies, terraces, decks and wet areas, Marmox Sloping Boards taper from 33mm to 10mm across a 1200mm x 1200mm panel. This built-in gradient creates a one-way fall, helping contractors establish drainage direction with greater consistency during installation.

The boards can be installed over suitable structural substrates, including concrete, fibre-cement sheet or timber, and may be followed by waterproofing and tiling in accordance with the project system and relevant requirements.

Lightweight and tile-ready

Manufactured with an XPS core and reinforced polymer-cement coatings, the boards combine low weight with waterproofing, thermal insulation and a stable, tile-ready surface. Marmox lists a compressive strength of 400kPa, equivalent to 40 tonnes per square metre when correctly installed.

The boards are also designed to be cut and adapted on site. They can be combined with Marmox Multiboards to extend the slope where required, supporting flexible layouts without the labour and drying time associated with traditional screeds.
