Di Emme Bespoke Doors to Shine in Taipei Hotel

Di Emme recently despatched 18 bespoke door panels bound for the Mandarin Oriental Taipei ballroom. Hotel specialists, Hospitality & Leisure Asia (HLA) designed the interior and commissioned Di Emme to craft the ornate door panels intrinsic to the design.

Di Emme project manager, Andrew Pugh, flew to Kuala Lumpur with samples for the Malaysia-based client and met on site in Taipei with the principle contractor, Kai Tai Fung International Company. Drawings and images were exchanged later for fine-tuning. Every care was taken to ensure the final result would match the original concept.

Creating the panels involved several processes and the timeframe was tight. First, the panels had to be hand-sculpted in clay. The clay was used to create fibreglass moulds. The panels were cast in fibreglass and finally gilded and glazed. The finished panels have the look of relief metalwork and like Taipei, the city, marry the classic and contemporary.
