Efficient Lighting for Adelaide Oval Redevelopment from WE-EF

WE-EF stars in the redevelopment of Adelaide's iconic home of sport

With the massive redevelopment of the Adelaide Oval site, completed earlier this year, the project team took the opportunity to install high performing and efficient lighting products that will provide long-lasting quality.

Given the Adelaide Oval has enjoyed a proud history as one of Australia's premier sporting and entertainment venues for more than 140 years, the team managing its $535 million redevelopment was aware that it needed to create a venue for the future.

Major construction works commenced in the first quarter of 2012 and many awaited the completion of works earlier this year, not least the specialist consultants that contributed to the project.

Derek Broome, an Associate in Aurecon's Adelaide office - the firm responsible for the lighting and electrical engineering services - described Adelaide Oval as "one of the most important buildings and pieces of social infrastructure in South Australia".

The opening of the redeveloped sporting ground and entertainment venue has seen it once again sit proudly within a revitalized riverbank and parklands precinct; home to cricket, football and other major events. Broome said the project has transformed the previous ageing venue into a state-of-the-art 53,500-seat stadium, with the effect of "uniting the people of South Australia and creating vibrancy in the city of Adelaide".

Certainly the use of WE-EF luminaires has assisted in realizing a central aspect of the design, to maintain the heritage and culture of the Adelaide Oval. "This was achieved by supporting the vision of 'a series of pavilions within a parkland setting', including the retention of the Northern Mound and Moreton Bay Fig Trees," said Broome.

Paul Mark, from JSB Lighting the sales partner of WE-EF in South Australia, said the company's reputation was the primary reason why its products were specified. "The consultants picked WE-EF because of the quality of its products and the services that come with them," he explained.
