The Lewisham Traction Project was a success, thanks to Mascot Engineering, the largest manufacturer of precast pits in Australia. A 1500V DC located in Sydney's Inner West required a custom precast pit for Next Rail and Transport for NSW.

Mascot Engineering assisted the John Holland Rail division with the creation of a custom pit that met geotechnical and buoyancy requirements as well as its installation. The pit created had a depth of 4200mm and an opening of 2200mm x 2600mm.

The pit was supplied in segments so as to reduce lift weights as well as site access constraints. The top half of the pit is above ground and a custom precast cover slab was fitted on it using watertight infill plus bolt-down Access Covers.
