Specifying a facade-mounted smoke and heat vent on an Australian project usually raises one question: which standard does it fall under? It's a fair question, because none of Australia's fire and ventilation standards were written with a glazed, facade-mounted, automatically opening louvre in mind. AS 2427 and AS 2665 cover roof-mounted vents. AS 1530.4 tests fire resistance, not smoke movement.

The architectural louvre standard, AS 4740, explicitly excludes smoke and heat exhaust ventilators. The result is a genuine gap for facade-integrated Natural Smoke and Heat Vents (NSHVs). SJ Proteger is Safetyline Jalousie's answer. It's an Australian-manufactured facade louvre, tested to EN 12101-2 - currently the only published product standard globally with dedicated provisions for wall-mounted NSHVs - with actuator integration through SE Controls.
