Large-Format Louvre Facade for High-Performance Centre by Safetyline Jalousie The Bruce Gordon Centre, home to the St George Illawarra Dragons Community and High Performance Centre, sets a new benchmark for elite sporting environments in Australia. Located at the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus, the $65 million facility designed by Populous brings the club's NRL, NRLW, pathways and community programs under one roof for the first time. In a high-performance facility, air quality and ventilation directly influence recovery, focus and output - making the building envelope a genuine performance consideration. To deliver this in the training zone, 18 motorised SJ Espacer louvre windows were specified across a large-format glazed facade. Their 235mm glass blades open to 70 degrees, drawing fresh air deep into the space while maintaining clean sightlines, and connect to the building management system for automated, responsive ventilation. Rather than sitting as separate punched openings, the SJ Espacer units were glazed into the same framing grid as the surrounding curtain wall, reading as part of the glazing line. As a locally manufactured system made from Hydro CIRCAL 75R recycled aluminium, it also delivered a low-carbon, fully traceable material story. Explore SJ Espacer at safetylinejalousie.com.au.
