Banksia Apartments is the flagship residential building in Norwest Quarter, Mulpha International's $1 billion masterplanned community in Sydney's Hills District. Designed by Bates Smart and completed in 2024, the 115-apartment building is shaped by a philosophy of connection to the natural environment - every apartment oriented to maximise light, fresh air, and outdoor living.

To support that low-energy design intent, Safetyline Jalousie SJ Jalousie natural ventilation louvres were specified throughout the apartments. Chosen for their high free air performance, weather resistance, and inbuilt security, they allow continuous passive ventilation at every level while reducing reliance on centralised air-conditioning. The building entry required a different solution.

As part of the fire strategy, a certified Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilation system was needed at ground level. SJ Proteger louvres, tested to EN 12101-2, were specified in two extra-wide bays that deliver the free air the fire engineer required in a compact footprint, activating automatically in a fire event.

Across both applications, the SJ product family resolves natural ventilation and fire safety through one consistent architectural language. See the project at safetylinejalousie.com.au.
