Stage Truss Variable Hinged Junction from Design Quintessence

0-25 degree Variable Hinged Junction
Lux Events gets hinged for Western Australian of the Year Awards 2015
Event: The Western Australian of the Year Awards presented by Celebrate WA
Date: Friday 29th May 2015
Venue: Pavilion 3, Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre
Screen: 40m curved screen on a 130 degree sweep (17.5m radius)
No-one could accuse the Lux Events team in Perth of being unhinged, certainly not now that they have purchased 25 of our new F34 variable hinges that can be set at angles from 0° to 25° in 2.5° increments. David Trapp, managing director at Lux, first came to DQ asking for pricing on a custom 40mØ F34 Truss arc to suit their new 40m curved projection screen on a 130° sweep (17.5m radius).

This equated to a lot of F34 Truss radials that would really only ever be used for one purpose as a circle - and not even a complete circle at that. David's timing was perfect as we had just completed designing and testing our new variable hinged junction. This meant Lux could achieve the curve they need using standard F34 Truss 3m straight lengths with hinged junctions set at 10° between each.
The end result was a large truss arc that supports their fantastic new screen perfectly. The hinges were put to use immediately as Lux provided full production at the 2015 Western Australian of the Year gala on 29 May at Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The 40m x 5m curved screen was used for an immersive multimedia backdrop to the presentation of the 2015 awards. Awards, titles and sponsors were displayed on the screen as well as live camera picture in picture on either side. The opening performance was an interactive dance piece where members of the Co3 dance company performed a choreography synchronised with custom animations on the screen.

The event attracts a number of VIP's and other notable guests to assist in announcing the winners of seven Award categories (Aboriginal, Arts & Culture, Business, Community, Professions, Sport and Youth) and also, the overall winner, the Western Australian of the Year 2015. The photo taken during the presentation shows a truly outstanding production. Job well done!
