Suspended Beam Ceiling Concept Veneer from Supawood

The Cairns Central Shopping Centre in Cairns QLD features the SUPAFINISH concept veneer using MAXI BEAMS from Supawood. Designed to create a bright, airy feature for the Queensland shopping centre, the unique ceiling layout ensured that the beams are see-through so that the bright and airy ceiling is still visible from below- mimicking windows letting in natural light.

With an objective to improve the mall visitor experience and add new and exclusive brands, the project was a redevelopment of the Queensland regional shopping centre and aimed to modernize the shopping and dining experience for the local and tourist customer base.

According to Buchan Senior Interior Designer, Kathryn Grant, the visual concept was influenced by a "Reef to Rainforest" theme. The result was an eye-catching yet balanced layering of natural materials with a base timber colour palette mixed with ocean blue and greenery.

The project featured Supawood's MAXI BEAMS with SUPAFINISH concept veneer in finish Hoop Pine Limed. It can be seen at the central market food hall where the beams were mitred and included a 50mm rebated capping. To ensure a safe installation, custom fixing was designed and used for the beam fixings.
