For optimal protection against corrosion, look no further than Trenton Wax-Tape® #2 self-firming corrosion protection tape. Its unique physical composition is soft and pliable, but when applied to below and above ground pipes; bridge spans; valves or fittings; structural steelwork, and areas where blasting and painting are complicated, it firms up to produce a long-lasting and highly protective coating.
The self-firming corrosion protection tape consists of microcrystalline waxes, plasticisers, corrosion inhibitors, and other inert materials combined to form a non-woven, non-stitch bonded synthetic felt-type fabric. When exposed to air, the solvent in Trenton Wax-Tape® #2 anti-corrosion tape evaporates, leaving a firm, non-sticky, and UV-resistant surface.
How to Apply Trenton Wax-Tape® #2 Self-Firming Corrosion Protection Tape?
1. Using a wire brush, scrape and brush the working surface to remove dirt, loose and flaky coatings and rust.
2. Once the surface is free of contaminants, rub a thin layer of Trenton Wax-Tape® Primer or Temcoat™ Primer before applying the anti-corrosion tape. The primer fills out the pores of the metal surface, therefore conditioning the working area by penetrating any rust particle and displacing moisture buildup. Apply a generous amount of the primer if the surface is wet, cold or rusty.
3. Start wrapping the self-firming corrosion protection tape in a downward-facing starting point with a one-inch overlap. Press and form the anti-corrosion tape to remove air pockets and voids under the wrap.
When applying on a straight surface, press the tape firmly on the surface to ensure surface contact and adhesion. For an irregular surface, allow the self-firming corrosion protection tape to slack to make it easier to mould them into conformity.
Don't forget to smoothen out the lap seams to ensure they are sealed.
4. If the roll ends in a downward-facing position, start the new roll underneath the previous one.
5. The self-firming corrosion protection tape does not need curing time, therefore it can be backfilled quickly.
