MAXI BEAM achieves cosy tunnel effect in childcare centre corridor

A very innovative use of MAXI BEAM has been applied in the common areas of the Grow Early Education Child Care Centre in North Bundaberg. The designers, Raunik Design Group, wanted an easy to install and durable lightweight beam to create a feature in a long corridor. The product also needed to be simple and quick to install while complying to strict BCA compliance for this type of building.

MAXI BEAM was ideal and met all their needs as the beams comply with Fire Group 3 requirements as per AS 5637 and NCC Spec C1.10. SUPAWOOD were also the only supplier able to supply a compliant certificate for this project that allowed for gaps and openings as per the new regulations of May 2019.

To make the corridor that leads into the heart of the building warmer and more welcoming, the designers have applied MAXI BEAM in SUPALAMI Light Tasmanian Oak laminate. Here they have created a screen on one wall over the windows into adjoining rooms that continues across the ceiling above. On the ceiling they have staggered the beams where they end. This forms the dynamic effect of a cosy tunnel.

Back in the light filled reception area, the use of MAXI BEAM in SUPAFINISH White laminate on the ceiling gives the impression of structural beams and breaks up the vast high ceiling. To define the area of the reception desk, a pergola effect has been created by suspending 4 beams overhead. The whole design along with the lighting achieves a friendly atmosphere.

Both SUPALAMI and SUPAFINISH finishes used in this project are low cost, extremely durable, and have zero VOCs. At this state-of-the art early education centre, the use of MAXI BEAM helped to achieved a fun and welcoming environment for both the children attending and their carers. It also demonstrates how versatile MAXI BEAM is, not only for ceilings but walls and screens as well.
