Steel Framing for Remote Community Centres with NASH

Steel Framing for Remote Community Centres with NASH

NASH is proud to present the Aurukun Health Centre, featuring termite-proof steel framing. The National Association of Steel-framed Housing (NASH) are representatives of high-quality steel frame fabricators and construction around Australia. In this case, they detail the major role steel framing is playing in some of our most remote communities.

The Aurukun Health Centre required high-performance, quick, efficient, and cost-effective construction. Located around 800km from Cairns via mostly corrugated gravel roads, a lightweight, easy to transport frame system was also necessary. Contractors Alan Jenkins and Natalie Gordon Constructions therefore specified a comprehensive steel frame kit from Homefab Steel Truss & Frame, Mareeba. It comprised;

  • Steel framing with windows and doors.
  • Colorbond® Sandbank external steel cladding for the roof and exterior walls.
  • Fibre cement panels for the internal walls.

Located in a cyclonic area (class C and with category 2 terrain), the steel framing for the Aurukun Health Centre was successfully erected as per the Building Code of Australia and AS/NZS 1170.2.
