Mandatory Registration for SIL and Platform Providers from July 2026.

From 1 July 2026, all providers delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL) and platform-based services under the NDIS will be required to register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Announced by the Albanese Government in December, the reform introduces mandatory registration, independent audits, suitability assessments, reporting obligations, and worker screening checks for these higher-risk service categories.

SIL providers support people with disabilities to live as independently as possible, often in shared accommodation, delivering daily supports such as personal care, cooking, and household tasks. Platform providers, which connect participants and workers through online marketplaces, will also fall under the new framework due to the scale and low visibility of their operations.

The move aligns with the development of new SIL Practice Standards, focusing on quality, safety, worker capability, and stronger audit requirements. The reforms respond to recommendations from the NDIS Review, Disability Royal Commission, and sector consultations, aiming to lift consistency and accountability across the market.

With further transition guidance expected in early 2026, providers are encouraged to begin preparing now. Digital care management platforms such as CareVision can assist organisations to strengthen documentation, compliance workflows, and operational readiness as regulatory expectations increase.
