Sea Creature Feature at Coffs harbour

With the support of funding under the Federal Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, Brelsford Park in Coffs Harbour, NSW recently received an impressive make over.

Brelsford Park is at the heart of Coffs Harbour City and now with its revitalised look is a great area for residents and visitors to enjoy. The park is at least 80% open space, but the new focal point of the area is the new Adventure Playground. One of the features of the playground was a sea creature water feature which required bright colours and intricate design to continue with the playground equipments vibrant feel.

Coffs Harbour Council called on StoneSet to supply the material and to collaborate with the design. A plan featuring a Jellyfish, Crab, Turtle, fish and Dolphins was presented and the colours picked from the recycled glass range. The stencils were cut from MDF and positioned on site.

The process of infilling the different colours began, so as one colour had set, another piece of the stencil could be removed to allow the next colour to be installed. With a total of 11 different colours as well as the dark and light blue mix for the background the installation took three days and the results were amazing.

As well as the sea creature feature the StoneSet recycled glass was also used to create the flames, eyes, nostrils and nails for the dragon which engulfs the whole play area. The body is a clever design weaving around the park and set in concrete, but it is really only brought to life with the bright orange, red and yellow of the flame as well as the green and yellow eyes and purple nails.

The park was completed in January 2010 and has more than achieved the objective of providing a refreshed city centre park area with a stimulation playground, but maintain the 'village green' feel.
