Air conditioning Ducting Gets the Soundlag Treatment from Pyrotek

Kuningan City is a one-stop living solutions complex, located in the central business district of Jakarta. The City is a creation of the Agung Podomoro Group, a large developer in Indonesia, and comprises a shopping centre, office tower, apartments and a multi-purpose hall. But the office tower had a noise problem!

Acoustic Problem

Each level of the office tower is constructed without false ceilings, leaving the air conditioning ducting visible and allowing noise to be transmitted directly to the occupants.

One of Jakarta's prestigious insurance companies began occupying the offices, and as the demand on the air conditioning system increased, so did the noise. The finance department in particular found it hard to work and concentrate in such a noisy environment.

Developing a Solution

Pyrotek was approached to find a solution. Noise levels measured up to 61dBA under the ducting elbow, significantly above the acceptable Equivalent Sound Level - Leq for working accommodation of 50dBA.

Soundlag 4525C was considered to be the most effective way to reduce the noise. Its multi-layer construction allows the noise barrier to act independently to the surface that it's applied to, giving broad-range noise reduction, and its flexibility allows it to be easily installed. The lagging was fitted, paying particular attention to bends in the ductwork and securely taping the overlaps at joins.

Results

After installation, the noise readings measured 51-52dBA. A 10dBa reduction is significant, and a reduction in noise at this level is greater than halving the audible sound to the human ear. The developer stated, "It is much better and there are no more complaints from the tenants." Pyrotek will continue to work with the developer to provide a comfortable and productive work environment for office occupants.
