Design & construct capability turns unique idea into reality

IGA Romeo's Food Hall, MLC Centre in Sydney is a great example of Supawood's Design and Construct service.

The client wanted something dynamic to reflect their new market direction aimed at catering for a diverse array of shoppers. The designers, Saunders Global, had a concept involving multiple lining types but no standard products existed for most of these.

SUPAWOOD took the architect's concept through to a final design and coordinated installation through to completion.

Design and Construct Service: Throughout the project SUPAWOOD liaised between all involved. Initially multiple sets of samples and pricing were provided until the final product combinations were approved and SUPAWOOD recommended an installer. By providing this full service both the design intent and budget were maintained throughout every stage.

To achieve the final design outcome SUPAWOOD adapted several of their products to suit.

Flowing Curved and Shaped Beams with integrated LED lighting: The store is located in the basement with minimal exposed frontage so to lure people in LED lit beams have been used over both the escalators and the stairs which form the main entry points. This effect continues throughout the store directing patrons along key paths through the departments.

On the limited store frontage a slatted wall incorporates the store's logo in contrasting slats.

SUPAWOOD adapted Supaslat MAXI BEAM by integrating custom designed LED lighting into the beams. The beams morph side to side, twist and curve literally lighting the way in and around the store.

Continuous timber slat feature walls: Maximum impact has been achieved on the limited frontage in the rail link corridor and up to the escalator the ajoining Food Court entry by installing a unique timber slatted wall. Here a contrasting backing board has been used to create a continuous slatted wall. The designers making good use of this by creating contrasting areas of "Black-on-Timber" and "Timber-on-Black" and integrating the client's logo into the slats.

The store bulkheads have been lined with vertical slats then lit with LED strip lights to highlight the signage which defines the various departments.

A suspended curving WAVE BLADES ceiling thoughout the store conceals what is above and is integrated with lighting and other service.

WAVE BLADES feature ceiling: The main food hall ceiling has been lined with suspended timber WAVE BLADES which curve up and down to follow and disguise the concrete ceiling and services above while lighing has been integrated between the blades. By using the blades at different levels and directions the ceiling defines the main areas of the store. The LED lit beams intersect the blades and make overhead paths through them around the store.

The decorative ceiling above the deli and the slatted bulkheads have been given a customised Food-safe finish.

Food-safe Feature Ceiling: To meet strict guidelines for food preparation areas Supawood developed a Food-safe lining. The ceiling over the deli forms a circular feature created in both grooved and dotted Tasmanian Oak panels and the slatted bulkheads have all been given this new finish.

IGA Romeo's Food Hall is an excellent example of SUPAWOOD's design and construct service ability and demonstrates how they can take ideas, develop them, produce what is needed then oversee installation to deliver the whole through to a successful completion while maintaining a set budget.
