Achieve Site Surface Permeability Requirements with StoneSet
How StoneSet Can Help Achieve Site Permeability Requirements
Requirements & objectives of Council
To ensure that land use and development is designed and constructed in a way that is considerate of the surrounding environment and community. One of the many considerations is sustainable land use and the ratio of hard to soft landscaping. An objective which is growing in importance as land use increases, is to ensure that rain water is able to soak into the ground and that the urbanisation of areas does not increase surface run off which impacts storm water systems both immediately and downstream.
A consideration for planners is also to ensure land is usable. With plot sizes reducing, house sizes increasing and with increasing number of vehicles per house hold keeping within the ratio set can be a challenge.
How can StoneSet help?
StoneSet is a fully porous hard surface, this is achieved by using a resin and aggregate blend, just enough resin is used to coat and hold the stone securely in place but with a high enough void content to provide a seamless surface which allows water to permeate through at very high rates of 60 litres/m²/second. This can aid stormwater management meet council objectives all the while offering usable and attractive use of land.
StoneSet has many advantages over other soft landscapes for example:
Grass
Requires water to maintain and keep healthy.
Compacts further overtime, reducing porosity rates.
Looks untidy when trafficked by vehicles.
Loose Gravel
Compacts further over time, reducing porosity rates.
Is often washed away, increasing maintenance for user and the risk of storm water contamination.
Is often a health and safety concern, with increased risk of falling and slipping.
Does not meet accessibility requirements.
The strength of StoneSet is achieved through the combined properties of the resin bound stone and the underlying 52mm Gravel cell back-filled with free-draining gravel. This will provide a combined compressive strength of over 4000t/m², which is equal to 41 megapascals which is more than adequate for vehicular trafficked areas including heavy vehicles without deforming or damaging the underlying roots.
The StoneSet finish will also ensure a non-slip surface suitable for both car and foot traffic, even in wet weather, the typical slip wear rating achieved is R11 which is suitable for external ramps.
StoneSet has been used in many driveway and car-park applications though Europe and Australia and has been used for tree surrounds by a number of councils in NSW, QLD and SA.
A full 10 year guarantee is provided, that covers no loose stone, no colour change. The material is low maintenance, it is quick and safe to install with minimal waste and no washing of the surface is required. StoneSet enables you to have a low maintenance hard wearing surface with all the benefits to the environment of a free draining permeable surface.
