Rooftop Plant and Equipment Noise Control Sydney from Pyrotek

Overcoming Rooftop Noise Levels.

The design specifications for the new Greenacres golf club facilities included the requirement to control noise generated by rooftop plant and equipment. Greenspec Solutions contacted Pyrotek Noise Control to assist in changing the old out-dated method of lining roof top areas to one that was more robust and simpler to install. The answer was Reapor - as it provided an alternative, the offered cost savings and a more robust lifetime system.

Typically noise bounces off hard reflective surfaces and needs to be absorbed so that it does not radiate out and become an issue for neighbours. Historically, glass wool or polyester wrapped in polyester film, and then installed behind perforated metal was the installation method used. This cumbersome method is not only expensive; it adds weight to the roof construction and can be hard to work with.

The structure makes changes on site difficult without coming into contact with fibres and having to reseal the insulation watertight. Moisture and fibre insulation don't mix and, the acoustic performance is affected once the protective layer of polyester film is incorporated. Over time the fibres can break down or settle, providing only a percentage of the acoustic absorption that it was designed to provide. This is where REAPOR is in a class of its own.

REAPOR is a better choice for the application, easily installed by direct adhesion to primed cement sheeting or concrete substrates. Reapor is easily cut and shaped on site using standard woodworking equipment. The use of the Fixseal MSP15 adhesive also allows installation to take place without the need for propping the panels.

The ability to work with the product on site is very beneficial particularly when dealing with penetrations and services. Reapor's ability to withstand weather is a real bonus, it means not having to treat the product or worry about it getting wet or affected by the Sun's harsh UV rays. It has enough mechanical strength to not need further protection and being non-combustible means it can be used in any situation. REAPOR is made from recycled material and is fully recyclable; it is bonded mechanically making it a compliant product for green star requirements.

Greenspec Solutions where extremely pleased with the installation as they were able to finish the job well within budget and ahead of time. The end client was also pleased with his cost savings and a product that looks better and will last longer than other alternatives proposed.

The results were outstanding - with all the mechanical services running you would be challenged to know there is a plant and equipment operating on the roof. This was critical owing to the close proximity of houses to the Clubroom.

Advantages in using REAPOR

  • High sound absorption
  • Fibre-free
  • Rigid and durable
  • Not affected by water
  • Easily worked
  • Lightweight
  • Quick and simple to install
  • 100% recyclable
