Natural Aggregate Paving Sydney from StoneSet

A Haven for Healing: Raising the Roof, StoneSet Style

StoneSet use natural aggregate to create beautiful paving in the Mater's all new healing garden

Background
The Mater hospital in Sydney is a not for profit institution that provides the community with both medical and spiritual care. Founded by the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, the Mater focuses not just on healthcare but the well-being of the mind, body and soul.

Situation
Looking beyond the physical healing process, The Mater utilise alternative therapies that assist in their patients' recovery. The latest innovation from the Mater was the construction of a healing garden. Designed to incorporate both traditional and contemporary components, the roof garden would provide patients with a sanctuary for reflection.

Why StoneSet?
StoneSet is a popular choice for roof gardens because it can be laid at a shallow depth, therefore reducing the weight that the roof has to bare. StoneSet is even better in roof gardens that are incorporating a water harvesting system as the material's permeability allows rainwater to penetrate immediately.

The beautiful range of natural aggregate provides customers with limitless options to suit their design needs. In the case of the Mater, a sandstone tone was selected to compliment the current colourings of the hospital. The natural stone also provided the perfect soft tones required to create a calming environment.

All StoneSet products guarantee against loose gravel, which is a huge bonus from a maintenance point of view. As well as being hassle free, StoneSet surfaces are wheelchair friendly and can be walked on comfortably in bare feet.

StoneSet is quick and easy to install, ensuring minimum disruption and enabling the team to access areas such as roof gardens with no problem at all. StoneSet can also be used to overlay existing surfaces, thus reducing the time and cost associated with digging up unwanted material.

Solution
The Mater selected a 3mm pearl for their garden; the natural aggregate a beautiful choice for this special project. The expected traffic was to be pedestrian only, so the StoneSet was laid at its minimum 12mm depth over a pre-existing base of concrete. Though designed for perambulatory use, StoneSet laid at this depth would still be strong enough to handle light vehicular traffic such as cars. A team of 3 completed a 200m² area in just 3 days.

Result
The ensuing result was a beautifully finished, seamless area of paving that looked completely at home amongst the different colours and textures of the roof garden. Combining both form and function, StoneSet will undoubtedly be enjoyed by all in the Mater's healing garden.
