Quicklay slip resistant flooring from Altro Safety Flooring

One of the grandest old ladies of Australian architecture has seen more power struggles than any building in Australia. Old Parliament House (OPH) in Canberra was home to Australia's Federal Parliament from 1927 until it was superseded in 1988. It then became a 'living museum of political history' and a major tourist attraction, hosting many events and art exhibitions. It is a nationally listed heritage building.

However, Old Parliament House is now being updated to ensure it retains its position of power in Australian history as we move deeper into the 21st century. Partially re-opened in Autumn 2009, this grand old building is undergoing a major redevelopment. This is where Altro came in.

First contacted by the OPH Facility Manager to provide some technical advice for the kitchen floor, the Altro consultant discovered they had a competitor's safety flooring product which was not only non-complaint but had also been incorrectly installed. Naturally, it failed after only 12 months, causing much damage to the sub-floor. Major works were required to rectify and bring the floor up to satisfy Australian Standards.

The solution was to utilise Altro's Single Point of Contact services to install the Altro Quicklay System. The Quicklay System is a combination of Altro KR12-30, Altro's highest rated product for slip resistance, with Altro Everlay A ensuring that installation downtime is kept to a minimum.

Working in tandem with our experienced partners, Asset Flooring Group and their fully trained installers, and building works consultant PBI Australia, Altro arranged everything to rectify the problem.

The project was delivered on budget and ahead of schedule - actually in 5 days instead of the scheduled 2 weeks!

The works delivered to the customer included removal of fixtures & fittings and existing floor coverings, rectification of falls to wastes, and supply and install of the Altro Quicklay System. All while complying with heritage building legislation.
