Michael Ineson, Managing Director
In the early years, Michael was a fencing and retaining wall contractor. It was at this time that he realised the direction he wanted to go in the future.

Michael has been involved with pre-cast concrete and the building industry since 1993. He was employed by a prominent pre-cast concrete manufacturer in Adelaide as a supervisor and during this time he initiated the plan of manufacturing coloured and patterned concrete sleepers for retaining walls.

As there were some concrete sleeper manufacturers already operating in Adelaide, he concluded his sleepers needed to be a little different.

In 1996, he enlisted the help of a pattern maker to help produce sleepers with a variety of patterns. They started their humble beginnings in the backyard of a home and produced 10 sleepers per week, mixing concrete in a small household concrete mixer, adding colour's and vibrating the sleepers by hand. In a short space of time they had various different coloured and patterned sleepers available.

January 2000
Outback Sleepers Ply Ltd ("Outback Sleepers") was established in January 2000 and leased a property in Lonsdale. In the following two years grew rapidly to become the largest supplier of quality concrete sleepers for retaining walls in South Australia.

Due to the rapid expansion of the business and the demand for sleepers, in February 2002 they moved to larger premises so they could ensure the supply and delivery of sleepers.

January 2006
In January 2006, Michael decided to split the company into two separate entities;

• Outback Sleepers Pty Ltd, which undertakes the manufacture of all the products; and
• Outback Sleepers Australia Pty Ltd, which is responsible for the marketing, sales and delivery.

Currently the company has 20 employees and manufactures more than 170,000 sleepers per year. Outback Sleepers have become more automated in their production methods, by batching the concrete using a pan mixer and automating the take out method. This automation allows us to manufacture more sleepers in the same amount of time.
