Geogrid for High-Strength Railway Stabilisation from Polyfabrics

One of the most remarkable projects where Polyfabrics was employed included the supply of their geogrid solution for the high-strength railway stabilisation of Aurizon Rail. This project required heavy-duty geogrid products that would help improve the strength and absorb the movement of the 18km track duplication plan, which went on to serve coal trains that weigh more than 100T.

From the Polyfabrics range, EGRID 30KN biaxial geogrid suited the geogrid requirements for the railway stabilisation project. It was used in 2 layers of new trackbed, where the first layer was mounted infill with CBR20, while the second layer was placed infill CBR45 and levelling the fill to the formation level. Polyfabrics also supplied their TerraTex 464 Geotextile, used for some sections of rail duplication with low subgrade CBR.

The use of EGRID biaxial geogrid has allowed for:

Increased shear resistance and improved lateral restraint against vertical loads.
Even distribution of loads and reduced stress concentration over the soil.
Increased bearing capacity.
