Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Acoustic Performance

The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre received an urban custom acoustic panel design perfection throughout the whole interior of the building. The building needed a modern look to fit the sophisticated cancer treatment, and Atkar delivered. The situation required an excellent cancer research centre for treatment, other education, and personal patient care that would fit the renovated and highly improved local Melbourne, Australian area.

Located in the prestigious Melbourne Parkville Biomeidal Precint, Atkar helped the building establish its presence over the area. Working with STHDI+MCR design team to develop the graphic pattern on the Welcome Hall ceiling, the interior acoustic panels and timber lined flow offers aesthetic form, while also providing the required soundproofing function.

The custom design was required due to the sensitivity that the patients need while receiving their treatment. The acoustic panels offer a warm and comfortable environment where sound is subdued. The custom quality acoustic linings adhered to the intense government regulations with this sensitive project. The clients wanted to bring a sense of cheer to the design by introducing architectural 'gum' timber flows and design throughout the building to give a multitude of interacting patterns and shapes. The interior acoustic panels offer a sense of awe as patients get lost and connect with their luxurious and futuristic surroundings. Since the patients do not have much to do while they are in treatment, having a delightful interior design was crucial for the success of the project.

Going higher on the upper floors of the cancer centre, the acoustic panels help reduce the sound reverberations in the lobby. The biggest complaint we heard from the staff at the cancer centre was that the nurses, receptionists, and doctors were getting frustrated with the loud rooms. Atkar solved this problem by offering acoustic stability on all levels.
