EJ Products Featured in New RAAF Base Heavy Apron Upgrades
Following the outlined agenda proposed in the 2023 Defence Strategic Review, the Townsville-based Royal Australian Air Force garrison is set to receive major infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the considerable personnel, vehicles, and machinery moving to the growing site. As part of the restructuring, two Adelaide-based combat units are being moved up to Brisbane with the intention of Townsville hosting the majority of Australia's heavy armour vehicles and helicopters by 2025. The addition of such a force demands large-scale upgrades and additions to the airfield infrastructure, including the enhancement and construction of additional personnel facilities, ordnance loading aprons and service equipment. The project will require heavy-duty, dependable Class G (900kN) access covers, and EJ is proud to be specified for the project.
As a manufacturer and supplier of access solutions for over 140 years, EJ has years of experience designing and equipping high-load areas with purpose-built access solutions that can withstand Class G (900kN) conditions. In conversation with CPB Contractors, EJ are supplying a range of heavy-duty grates and covers custom-designed to suit the unique infrastructure requirements that the Townsville airfield developments require. One such product is the G925G EJ Class G Ductile Iron Grate & Frame. Cast with durable ductile iron, the G925G system is purpose-built to withstand the impressive forces armoured vehicles can give out, while still efficiently diverting stormwater and remaining safe for pedestrians. Additionally, the modular design of the grating allows for sections of the grating to be lifted out individually, significantly reducing the lift requirements and manpower required to access and maintain covered services.
EJ also offer a range of hinged covers specifically designed for environments that require FOD-free spaces, such as large-scale airports and ports, that often harbour sophisticated engines or turbines. In these high-risk areas, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) refers to any loose object, substance or debris that is displaced and could possibly endanger precise machinery or equipment. To accommodate these unique conditions, EJ has a variety of specialised covers, such as the F900 FOD Hinged Hatch. Custom manufactured to eliminate the chance of FOD, this particular cover utilises a non-removable locking system and has no loose components, ensuring a clean environment. The HH9S cover also features stainless steel spring strut lift assistance, to aid port staff that need to access subsurface facilities often. For more enquiries, contact EJ today at www.ejco.com
