Dulux Pink Vertical Sun Blades at Docklands Studios in Melbourne by Louvreclad

Sound Stage 6 is Melbourne's new flagship production studio and one of the biggest stages in the southern hemisphere. It will host significant local and international TV and film projects. Grimshaw Global approached Louvreclad to talk about the project's vertical screening alternatives.

The Scarborough Series® 20mm vertical sun blades by Louvreclad were chosen for the facade after the Design Director reviewed the possibilities and went over the specifications. Being so thin can raise questions about deflection and fluttering. The Scarborough Series® 20mm vertical blades, however, were able to be fixed directly to the pre-cast walls, allowing for enough vertical fixation to stop any vibration and lessen deflection.

It was decided to use Dulux Duratec Pink Pearl Gloss as the finish, a homage to Andy Warhol's artwork which features Marilyn Monroe as well as a nod to the classic retro Hollywood aesthetic.

These pink louvres' practical purpose has been carefully considered to minimize solar heat intake and glare while maximizing brightness in the office. When viewed from the outside, the louvres produce a dynamic colour response that shifts as the viewer approaches.
