WATERPROOFING TRAINING GROUND OF FUTURE CHAMPIONS
The Centre for Excellence is Cricket Australia's multi-storey multi-purpose athlete development centre, based in Albion, Queensland.
Project Details
In 2013, the complex underwent extensive renovations and now includes a gymnasium, indoor practice wickets, synthetic turf, a 25 metre indoor lap pool, sports science facilities (injury rehabilitation, sports medicine), commercial space and basement parking. The technologically advanced centre also includes biomechanical force plates and an advanced motion analysis camera system for Cricket Australia's renewed focus on its Sports Science and Sports Medicine units.
Methodology
During renovations, Watpac Construction and Cricket Australia found they needed a watertight solution that would protect their new state-of-the-art training facility from water ingress in the case of flooding. During the tendering period, Watpac decided along with the architects, that Volclay sub-slab waterproofing was required. Bayset supplied tender winners, Eldred Enterprises with the Volclay system which is backed by CETCO's HydroShield Quality Assurance Program.

This program provides design assistance, complete product offering, material installation by an experienced approved applicator and quality assurance, along with many other benefits.
Result
Despite many challenging conditions during construction, including restricted site access, very poor ground conditions and the existing Queensland Cricket building needing to remain fully functional during construction, the project is now complete and the Centre for Excellence is creating future champions.
