How do Hyflo Self Closing Flood Barriers from Flooding Solutions Work?

Flooding Solutions proudly offers globally renowned Hyflo self closing flood barriers (SCFB™), touted as the world's most effective solutions against floods. Coming all the way from the Netherlands, the award-winning concept has been in operational use all over the world since 1998. With state-of-the-art floodwater management systems and infrastructural waterworks, the Dutch have received international esteem for making "living with water" possible. Since making its way to Australia, Hyflo SCFB™ has received a warm reception with a proven 100% success rate.
What is Hyflo SCFB™?
Hyflo SCFB™ is built for 24/7 100% flood protection for both commercial and residential properties. Its unique design harnesses the force of rising floodwaters to raise the barrier, allowing users to put flooding scenarios to their advantage. Without any manpower needed, Hyflo SCFB™ will operate reliably to protect people and property before floodwaters rise to alarming levels.
The operating mechanism of Hyflo SCFB™ is not energy driven, hence the barrier will rise instantly even when there is a power outage. Hyflo SCFB™ has a short closing time, allowing it to come up only when there is a flood situation. Without unnecessary deployments, the unit remains accessible and low maintenance. It only takes one or two times a year to maintenance test the self closing flood barriers.

The Principle of Self Closing Flood Barriers

Upon installation, all operational parts of the Hyflo SCFB™ are fully concealed in the ground inside its basin. The flood protection device stays in this setup during non-flood conditions.

The floating wall is housed in the enclosed basin of the flood barrier. When floodwater rises to within 10cm below flood level, the basin starts to fill up via an inlet pipe from the adjacent service pit. Thereafter, the flood wall floats and rises. When the basin is filled to the brim, the angled support block will lock the barrier into position. The result is a watertight flood barrier for the protected area against continuously rising floodwaters.

As floodwaters subside, the captured water in the basin is drained via drain pipes with one-way check valves. Simultaneously, the flood wall will return to its resting position within the basin. The barrier includes a lid that will seal it off protected from waste and debris.
Hyflo SCFB™ is available in the standard protection heights of 300mm and 600mm. Other heights can be specified upon special request. On the other hand, its standard length ranges from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 2.5 and 4m.
